JP founder John Paul has spent the last three years in exhaustive experimentation and development on this very question. Now at last, the JPRFX™ Precision Rimfire has arrived.

This competition-dedicated platform is built around the two components offering the vital accuracy and reliability to make this platform work:

JPRFX™ Precision Bull Barrel

The lynchpin of this platform is our premium rimfire bull barrel, produced to such exacting specification that availability is limited by sheer necessity. The pinnacle of barrel manufacturing, each suppressor-ready 18” must air-gauge within .0003” with a uniformity of bore that doesn’t vary beyond .0001” for the entire length. Perfection like that relies on absolute precision with no small amount of luck. Each barrel is also stress-relieved and lapped to a pristine bore polish.

LMOS™ Rimfire Bolt Assembly

The LMOS™ (Low Mass Operating System) bolt, manufactured from the same QPQ stainless steel as our bolt carriers, features lightening cuts for more rapid cycling. We’ve also revised critical geometry and parts relationships to all but eliminate ignition failures making this a premium competition component used by some of the top shooters in Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge today.

The JPRFX™ is available as a complete rifle built on either of our semi-monolothic receiver platforms, the side-charge SCI-20™ or the top-charge CTR-02™. These integral nut upper receivers provide maximum barrel support with our Thermo-Fit™ barrel installation for a near fusion of components. Rimfire Ammo Selection

No rimfire platform will exceed the inherent limitations of rimfire ammo. This makes committing to superior match grade ammunition an essential part of this formula for both reliability and accuracy. We will have more information coming out soon discussing our results with different ammunition as well as recommendations for ammo and maintenance to achieve the best performance from the JPRFX™ platform.

Behind the JPRFX™

I have been shooting precision rimfire events for years now. Manual rifles have dominated the matches of the NRL22 and the PRS Rimfire Series, I knew all along that a semi-auto platform would provide a distinct advantage in these games.

It all comes down to time, and the time constraints of these matches are already challenging. But this is combined with the complexity and physicality of compromised position shooting on multiple target engagements at multiple distances. A reliable, precision semi-auto combined with a quality optic equipped with a precise hold-off reticle system could make a respectable shooter “time out” proof.

The JPRFX™ has been my passion project for three years. Finally, we hit on the formula for an advanced precision semi-auto rifle that will be a game changer for precision rimfire competition. It’s also a joy to shoot for any rimfire enthusiast like me.

Two attributes were essential for a semi-auto to be competitive in this arena: accuracy and reliability. This rifle had to possess accuracy similar to a top tier bolt gun using recommended match grade ammunitions, and it had to cycle flawlessly with proper maintenance. Given the nature of the .22 LR cartridge, this was no small challenge.

We had already worked out the reliability formula with our action rimfire platform through involvement in Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge competitions. After years of refinement, our action is the most reliable rimfire for those games. In any action shooting endeavor, reliability is paramount. The gun must function. The shooter should be the limiting factor in any marksmanship endeavor, not the equipment.

That left the matter of accuracy. This required exhaustive experimentation with different ammo and barrel specifications. But at last, we hit on the right combination and broke the accuracy ceiling for the SA platform. The premium heavy barrel is keystone for this platform, which naturally made a Thermo-Fit™ install in our semi-monolothic receiver styles the only option to maintain that accuracy.

The first time I showed up at a PRS event with the JPRFX™, suffice it to say, it was not taken seriously. But then they saw it in action… The attitude changed quickly, and many saw the potential. With the right ammo, performance was consistent, even at longer ranges.

Like so many of our products, the real drive behind this rifle was to create the equipment I wanted for the games I was shooting. The JPRFX™ is everything I was hoping for when we started this project, and if precision rimfire is your sport of choice, this rifle is for you, too.

Placing New Orders:

Due to high demand, we have sold through our initial run of precision rimfire barrels. We're accelerating production as much as possible, but delivery on new orders for the JPRFX™ may be pushed out to the beginning of 2025. Pricing on the JPRFX™ is also subject to change for future deliveries.
