Welcome back, JP fans, to the March edition of the JP BULLETin.
Well, wasn’t it treat for so much of the U.S. to share in the “winter wonderland” magic for a change? It’s almost like you don’t want it to end, right? Alas, the days are getting longer and the melt is on up here in Minnesota. We’re just about ready to get outdoors again.
With that in mind, if you’re still planning out your shooting calendar for the year, we want to plug the JP Blue Steel Ranch again. Lead instructor Brian Whalen just added another PR-2 class to the schedule for May 18-20. If you have precision rifle basics down and want the next level, this is the class for you.
Now, we know people are hungry for whatever they can get on the JP-5™, so we’re going to be making a point of having something new for you at least every BULLETin. You’ll want to watch this space.
This month, we’re showing off something neat about this new system:

These are the JP-brand locking pieces for the JP-5™ roller-delayed operating system. As anyone who knows JP will testify, we love having adjustability in our rifles. So, in addition to reconfiguring the Silent Captured Spring, the JP-5™ has another adjustability “slider” in the locking piece.
If you’re not familiar, the locking piece bears on the rollers in the operating system. The angle of the locking piece manages how much pressure is required to open and cycle the action. Lower angles require higher pressure; higher angles, lower pressure. Too stiff or low of an angle, and the rifle won’t cycle. Too light or high of an angle, and you’re introducing excess energy that will wear parts faster and cause more recoil.
The 90° will be the default locking piece, but we’ll have a 100° and 110° particularly for shorter barrels. There’s also an 80° with suppressed users in mind. Beyond that, we’re also doing some experimentation with even lower angles for something down the line.
Moral of the story: anyone will be able to tune this platform exactly where it needs to be for whatever kind of shooting they’re doing. Plus, like many of the JP-5™ components, our locking piece designs fully compatible with H&K MP5-based platforms and will be available as aftermarket parts.
We don’t know about you, but we think these are pretty cool.
Moving onto March’s BULLETin business, we have a couple great Pro Posts this month. Ben Fleenor and his shooting partner Justin join us to talk trekker team matches for precision rifle. Then, we have some 3-Gun technique tips from our buddy, Adam Riser.
In Product Focus, we have the first part of Dustin Sanchez’s journey into long-range shooting talking rifles with our own, Adam Burt. Then, we give you the step-by-step on installing both our MK III and M-LOK series hand guards.
And that about wraps it up for March. We hope you all make it out of your winter thaw for a little range time this month. Join us again in April, and until then, good shooting!
